No Me Not!

Hannah has been progressing into sentences and new ways of expressing herself. And I must say, that I am impressed with her selection and usage of words. Not too much baby talk for this little one. A couple of weeks ago "myself" was her main word of choice. Now, she likes to tell us that she doesn't want to do something by saying "no me not". OK, it is a double negative, but I'm curious about her injection of the word "not", which is said clearly and with emphasis. A spitfire, this one.

Winter Festival

Bend threw its annual Winter Festival this past weekend, and ironically the temperatures topped 25 for the first time in weeks. They trucked 45 loads of snow from Mt. Bachelor to a street downtown and filled one block with a snow raceway. Dave participated in sprint races on the strip, while Hannah and I cheered on... and Hannah enjoyed running back and forth in the puddles. It was quite a site to watch such great racers speed past you at eye level.

Children's Museum

We are very lucky her in Bend to have a children's museum - Working Wonders. They've created a number of different rooms with activities for kids to play in... a pizza parlor, Japanese riokan, construction site, plus a grocery store. This is a savior during the grey months, and we as a family took a trip this weekend.

Hannah loved playing with the homemade play dough with her Dad and got all dressed up in a make shift Japanese kimono with her Mom.

Rooooaaar! Hannah was a lion for Halloween. We were busy trick-or-treating at the High Desert Museum (her eyes were wide looking at people dressed up), at a party at the Rumpus Room (where Hannah had to have an icing-free cookie and which was decorated with the kids' art), and around and about to a couple of friends' houses.

Tenner Lee Desmond

New Niece!
We welcomed a new baby girl into the family this weekend -- Tenner Lee Desmond! She was born at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday September 10, 2006 and was 6 lbs 15 oz. The delivery went well, and Reagan is recovering remarkably. Tenner's big brother Hayden held her, and her cousin Hannah had to take a look and give some kisses.

Dollies nap, dance, and SIT

Hannah is tuning into our dolls more and more. Yesterday, we put all the dolls and stuffed animals in the living room down for a nap. She piled them up one-by-one, giving them pats on the back and saying nigh-nigh... just like she gets. Then when they were done with their nap she danced some of them, and lined them all up with SIT commands on the couch. She's loving the roll playing and I can't wait to see what her creative mind comes up with next.

Yachates, Oregon

It was a family affair at the Oregon coast. My parents, brother/sister-in-law/nephew, mother-in-law, and our immediate family gathered in a house for 5 days of fun in the sand and... typically brisk Oregon coast weather.

We played and rolled in sand, flew kites, went to the acquarium, and even went on an adult mountain bike ride through the old growht.

Lovn' the Crib

Not only did Hannah turn a corner with her sleeping habits once she started walking (newfound independence... could be put down without feeling abandoned, even plays herself to sleep). But now it is HARD to get her out of her crib in the mornings. After a full session of "What's That?", she now points to a nearby book shelf and pronounces "booookk". We give her a book, leave her with it for 5-10 minutes, and then she's ready for the outside world.

Hannah has been asking "What's That?", pointing to just about everything around her. She's keeping us on our toes. She starts right off the bat in the mornings, with rapid fire "Watsat? Watsat? Watsat?" from her crib. We cover everything in her room and in the hallway... before mommy gets her coffee!

Well, Hannah has been working toward walking for some time now, and on May 21st, she took about 10 steps in a row! Very exciting! Dad even got it on video! Now the fun begins. Crawling is no longer an option. Hannah stands up, takes about five to ten steps, sits down, and does the whole thing all over again. She is very impressed with herself at this point. She stands up, looks at her mom, lets out a laugh and a smile and away she goes across the room. Trouble!!!

Letting Go!

For weeks, Hannah no longer showed interest in standing or trying to walk... crawling was the thing. She loves to crawl, crawl, crawl. Trying to stand her up, resulted in her dangling in the air with her legs bent out straight in front of her.

Today is a new day. Hannah has been letting go of more of her safety objects (couches, chairs, stools) and taking a couple of shuffling steps before hitting the floor. She particularly likes to let go and scuttle towards her Dad. Now we spend time every day walking with assistance on the front sidewalk. I hold her hands while she is between my legs, and she goes, goes, goes. She even likes to do a little jig now and then. She's getting ready to move!

Hannah learned a new game. The other day, while we were gathered around her, she put her hands over her ears. We put our hands over our ears, mimicking her. Down came her hands... down came ours. A big smile on her face. Next, her hands went up again, then did ours. Up, down, up, down we all went. Then, she put down just one hand. We put down two. She had the biggest, sly smile and let out quite a giggle. She tricked us. We love to see the many ways that Hannah exercises her sense of humor.

New skills for Hannah this week include giving objects to people. She has now found the pleasure of handing whatever she may be holding to someone else. We play a game of back-and-forth for quite some time. Here you go...

Now that Hannah is getting around crawling, she's getting better and faster with it, and is quite comfortable getting about. In fact, she enjoys a game of chase or "I'm gonna get you". Where she will scoot across a room quickly, looking over her shoulder and laughing, especially once she gets "caught".

The other day on the changing table, Hannah looked at me and started clapping for the first time! She was giggling and very pleased with herself, as were we.

This week Hannah is getting better and better with her standing skills. She shuffled up and down the couch, to say "hi" to her daddy's feet and face. Yes, this means we're having to put more and more out of reach as her curiosity is taking her to all sorts of corners around the house.

She's also taken a liking to licking things in order to figure them out. Much has been licked... the safety gate to the kitchen, my face, the knobs on the cabinet, the floor.... ick!

We pulled out a push cart given to her for Xmas, and she took a hold of it, pushed along the living room and followed behind in a tentative walk.... amazing!!!

Doors, shoes, and standing

As Hannah becomes more mobile, she is exploring her world more and more. She has learned the joys of opening and closing the door to my hutch/desk... something she learned from her cousin Hayden? Not only does she continue to love adults' shoes (and removing her own) but supported standing brings her a new look at her world. Ah, look who can spy the stuffed animals on the other side of crib.

Hannah's first Christmas. She was so very blessed with many, many gifts to open. We were lucky enought to sneak a tree into the livingroom, and she seemed to understand the concept of unwraping gifts. That, or she just really likes to rip paper and wave it in the air.

The whole family headed up to the Nordic lodge for some post-Turkey Day skiing. Hannah joined us in the lodge, and then later in the Chariot (sled) on the trails. Hannah spent lots of time visiting with everyone who came by.

Connecticut Visit

The family flew out to Connecticut to see the Cieslowski side of the family. Where Hannah got to meet her great grandmother (meme) for the first time.

And of course she got to spend lots of time with her grandma and grandpa Cieslowski and her Aunt Carrie.

Hannah got her first experience with snow this weekend. We bundled her up and took her out in the sled the grandparents Cieslowski sent her... it worked quite nicely. She was a trooper and seemed to enjoy the ride.

Today I made my first summit. I have been on lots of hikes, but not up a mountain before! Mommy and Daddy put me in the big girl backpack and we walked all the way to the top! Man, this walking stuff is pretty hard and I had to take a nap about half way up. I woke up just in time to get to the top. Of course, I needed a snack after all that hiking. The views were soooo cool that I couldn't stop smiling and looking around. The wind was blowing my hair around. I love it when that happens! The hike back down was fun too. I got to watch Isa pant and walk slower and slower. I guess she was tired just like me!

Hannah is a rolling pro by now. After weeks of fighting a cold, she is 95% healthy and raring to go. She has now found her toes.. and are getting them to her mouth!

Grandparents Desmond have been visiting this week. So Hannah has had a lot of quality time with her Granny T and Papa.

Shake, rattle, and roll

Hannah is kicking into high gear this week. Before she was rolling side-to-side, now she is rolling completely over and wiggling her way around the floor. It happened in a matter of days. Thursday: rolling back and forth on her back. Friday: rolling to her side and holding it. Saturday: rolling all the way over. Sunday: rolling over, head up, tucking legs underneath.

Needless to say, we are starting the child proofing process for the impending movement bursting to come out of her. Confinement is no longer desired so seats and swings are out, she instead prefers a nice open blanket with a couple of toys. On her belly, the legs are kicking away, on her back she is squawking more and more and shaking a rattle or tossing one of her blocks.

Hannah had her 4 month check up with the doctor. All is good and she is now 24 inches long and 12 lbs 9 oz. -- growing, growing.

Hannah has discovered her toys now. She not only holds a rattle but will shake it back and forth vigorously... usually wacking herself in the head and leg, but not slowing her down. She's starting to roll over occasionally. She's making more and more noise, especially in the mornings when she likes to squawk away at her toys and her Dad.

Camping in the Steens

Hannah went on her first camping trip... successfully. We were in the Steens mountains in mid-Eastern Oregon. Dave will tell you that it is a continental rift rising out of the high dessert. It is a long sloping plateau on one side with dramatic drops and gorges on the eastern side. We were there for our friends Leanne and Clint's wedding... quite a beautiful spot. She was such a trooper and did very well with camping out, although she was wide-eyed and ready to play at 4 a.m. with the full moon... so we took a little stroll under the moonlight.

I came home from the hospital today. A nice little ol' lady helped us out of the hospital (and almost took off with me which led to mommy being a screaming lunatic on the 3rd floor). There are two fuzzy creatures here besides Mom and Dad.

Mommy had to leave a couple of times this week, but Granny T held me just fine.
They took me somewhere with lots of lights and gadgets to see mommy and so I could eat, it smelled like the hospital I came from. We all came home together and went for a nice walk outside. Yea.

Hello World!!!

Hannah Dori Desmond Cieslowsk enters the world, or at least the breathing side of it, on this day... May 4, 2005 at 4:23 p.m. in sunny Bend, Oregon.

After 38 hours of labor, mom (Stacy) and Dad (Dave) greet her into the world. Not soon after, her cousin Hayden vists with Aunt Reagan and Uncle Brian, to say "hay" and "hello".
